Thomas Gilbert Sr.
The police say Gilbert was found dead with a gun wound to the head at his apartment at 20 Beekman Place in Manhattan's Upper East Side at about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Gilbert's son Thomas Gilbert Jr. was the only other person in the apartment, a police representative told Business Insider. (Police have not officially released the son's name.)
The son fled the scene on foot, and NYPD detectives were looking to speak with him. An NYPD representative told Business Insider on Monday morning that the son was in custody. No arrest has been made, and he has not been charged. The investigation is ongoing.
Shelley Gilbert, the wife of Thomas Gilbert Sr., made the 911 call yesterday afternoon.
A handgun was found inside the apartment.
Gilbert, who had 40 years of experience on Wall Street, founded Wainscott Capital Partners in 2011. Wainscott is a long-short equity hedge fund, according to the firm's website.
Gilbert, who was described to Business Insider as a "very nice man," graduated from Princeton and Harvard Business School.
Gilbert's son went to elite private schools — The Buckley School and Deerfield Academy. He later attended Princeton University. He seems to have recently launched his own hedge fund Mameluke Capital Fund LP, according to an SEC form D filed in 2014.
